Doomscroll Cat (the "app") takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what
information the app handles and how.
1. What information is handled, and how
1-1. Checked on your device only, never stored
The app's core blocking feature uses the Android Accessibility Service. The service
looks at the information below in real time, decides, and immediately discards
it. Nothing in this list is stored in any form or sent off your device.
The package name of the app currently on screen (for example, whether it is
YouTube, Instagram or TikTok)
Whether specific UI elements on screen (tab selection state, screen layout)
indicate a short-form video screen (Shorts / Reels)
Whether the URL shown in a mobile browser's address bar matches a short-form
video URL pattern
1-2. Stored on your device only
The information below is stored only in the app's local storage on your device
(Room database, DataStore) and is deleted when you uninstall the app. No third party,
including the developer, can access it.
Accumulated viewing time per day and per source (YouTube Shorts / Instagram
Reels / TikTok / mobile web)
The daily allowance and bedtime block window you set
Whether onboarding (the initial permission explanation) was completed, and the
date tracking started
Which cat skins and word packs you own and have equipped
Your parent PIN, stored only as a salted hash
1-3. Anonymous statistics sent off-device (only with your opt-in)
The app never sends personally identifiable information to a server, and any
statistics it does send are anonymized so that no individual can be identified.
Only if you turn on "Send anonymous usage stats" in Settings yourself,
the anonymized product-usage statistics below are sent to an analytics tool (PostHog).
This is off by default and can be turned off again in Settings at any time.
Completion of each onboarding step, and whether permissions were granted
Number of completed missions (flip the phone / deep breaths / word puzzle)
Settings-change events (for example, "daily allowance changed") โ only that a
change happened may be sent, never the value itself
Which in-app screen was opened (home / settings / cat wardrobe) โ only that a
screen was opened, not what you viewed or did on it
These statistics never include advertising identifiers, any identifier
that could single you out, which videos or posts you watched, or which apps you
used and for how long.
2. Purpose
Limiting and blocking short-form video (Shorts / Reels / TikTok) viewing time
(With opt-in) improving the product, e.g. finding where users drop out of
onboarding
3. Retention
Information stored on your device: deleted from your device the moment you
uninstall the app.
Anonymous statistics sent with your opt-in: kept for 1 year from collection, then
automatically deleted (per the PostHog project settings). You can withdraw consent
in Settings to stop any further sending.
4. Third parties and international transfer
As a rule the app does not provide personal information to third parties.
Only if you have opted in to anonymous statistics, anonymous
statistics are processed by the overseas entity below for the purpose of improving
the service.

5. Your rights
You can turn consent for anonymous statistics on or off in Settings at any
time.
You can revoke the accessibility service and the "display over other apps"
permission in Android system settings at any time; blocking stops immediately when
you do.
Uninstalling the app deletes all data stored on your device.
6. Notice about the Accessibility Service
In line with Google Play policy, the app clearly explains why it uses the
accessibility API. The accessibility service is used solely to determine whether the
current screen is a short-form video screen, or whether the address-bar URL is a
short-form video address, in order to provide blocking. It is not used for any purpose
other than those in section 1-1.
7. Children
The app is not designed for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect
personal information from children.
